A simple & interactive application coded with processing. Here, the user (usually children) must find out which animal is behind a shape composition. The user learns not only how to represent animals with simple shapes, but also the animal world and the naming of the respective creatures.
During the creation of the pictograms, attention was paid to the fact that the basic shapes should stay recognizable. Despite a small number of forms, the viewer should still be able to assign the animal. To achieve a good result, different designs were compared and combined.
Target group and formal context
The minimalistic handling of forms leads to a very playful visual appearance. The presented animals all belong to well-known, not exceptional animal species. These points indicate that the pictograms can be used particularly well in graphical surfaces for children.
The user navigates through the application by using simple key commands. Use the up and down arrow keys to toggle between the animals. To find out which creatures are represented by the shapes, the user has to press the space-key.
