A typographical poster, with a font made out of basic forms (circles, squares, triangles). Without the use of any other color then black.
Usage of basic shapes
In the attempt to create a font out of basic shapes, the topic „Origami“ is particularly suitable, because in this art of paper folding usually a square paper is the starting basis. If a sheet is folded, triangles are often observed – at least two-dimensionally. The challenge to implement the idea was to display folded paper without using shading and thus gray values or gradients – I used small circles to solve this problem.
The initial basis of each letter is a square that is modified or „folded“ so that a capital letter is produced.
For some letters, real paper prototypes were created during the design process to ensure that such a form actually exists.
Since the art of paper folding has been practiced in Japan and is particularly developed in the Asian cultural sphere, I deliberately chose a circle that is hidden behind the word. It reminds of the Japanese flag.
After I placed the finished letters on the poster, I realized that a stronger contrast to the white paper is needed, which is why I decided to use a black circle.
